Bali bombers to face firing squad24 October 2008, 22:13:40 - (1305 hits) Indonesia has declared it will execute the three militants on death row for the 2002 Bali bombings in November after years of delay
Amrozi Nurhasyim, 47, Ali Gufron, 48, and Imam Samudra, 38, will face a firing squad over the attacks on packed nightspots on the resort island of Bali which killed 202 people, mainly foreign holidaymakers.
“The plan to execute Amrozi, Imam Samudra and Ali Gufron will be conducted in early November 2008,” Jasman Panjaitan, spokesman for the attorney general’s office told a press conference on Friday.
Panjaitan did not specify an exact date or time for the execution, but said the execution can proceed as the three men are running out of legal options.
He added that the three have refused to file an appeal for clemency from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
The bombers’ last petition, against the use of the firing squad, was rejected the constitutional court earlier this week. Panjaitan meanwhile noted that all legal avenues have been cleared for their execution.
The three were members of Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) group.
Most executions in Indonesia are carried out by firing squad at undisclosed locations in the middle of the night. Prisoners are normally notified at least 72 hours before they are shot. News from haber27.com.
